Registered Dietitian covered by insurance | Basic Habits

Get nutrition care you deserve from a trusted latina dietitian covered by your insurance.

Empowering Latina women and their families with nutrition and basic habits that actually fit their lifestyle, so they can feel steady in their body without giving up the food they love.

You deserve to feel calm around food again

So you can show up for your health and your family without a single restrictive meal plan standing between you and without cost being a struggle.

I understand that fear, and I'm telling you there is another way to do this, one that doesn't ask you to choose between your health and your mom's arroz.

You're here because you're tired of starting over

Your schedule runs on caffeine and momentum, and by the time dinner rolls around, whatever is fastest wins, even when you know better.

You've followed the strict seven day meal plan before. More than once. It worked for a few days, then real life showed up and it fell apart.

Your last lab results scared you a little, and now every plate feels like a test you might fail.

You're not sure what your medication actually does, only that you're scared of what it might do to your body, so some days you just skip it.

You feed your kids better than you feed yourself most nights, and you know it, and you feel a little guilty every single time.

You've paid for programs, apps, and menus that never once asked about your kitchen, your culture, or your budget.

It doesn't have to be this way, and I get you

You have tried so hard to get this right. You've counted, restricted, quit, and started again more times than anyone should have to.

You've been told to cut the carbs, skip the tortillas, and treat your culture's food like the enemy, and none of it ever lasted past a few weeks. Maybe you're scared that managing your diabetes or your hormones means giving up the meals that feel like home.

I understand that fear, and I'm telling you there is another way to do this, one that doesn't ask you to choose between your health and your mom's arroz.

Here's the truth, your insurance covers your plan and it's time to pair it with the right support

You're not failing at your health. No one ever explained how your body actually works, or gave you a plan built for your real schedule instead of a stranger's. With the right guidance, food can go back to being something you enjoy, not something you fear.

My approach is rooted in realistic nutrition, cultural respect, and care that actually fits inside your day.

Realistic, never restrictive

We build around sustainable swaps instead of a seven day plan that only survives three days.

Bilingual and culturally grounded

This is a practice for Latina and Mexican American women and families, where tacos and salsa casera stay on the table.

We accept insurance

Your plan is covered, not costly. Most clients already have insurance that covers this care, so cost never has to be the barrier keeping you stuck.

Because your health was never meant to feel like one more chore, a calmer relationship with food is possible. This is where that starts.

hello there!

Meet Isbel Cano, a bilingual Registered Dietitian Nutritionist

I knew I wanted to be a nutritionist since middle school, and I took the long way to get there, from a boarding school detour to a program that felt too clinical to hold my attention, and finally a bachelor's degree at UANL in Mexico that led to my master's in dietetics at UTRGV and my RDN license here in the United States.

Along the way, across half a dozen jobs in a single year alone, I kept ending up in the same place, working with Spanish speaking, working class families managing chronic conditions on tight budgets and tighter schedules. That wasn't an accident. It's the community I keep choosing.

I firmly believe that healthy eating is not something you either master perfectly or fail at completely. Through Basic Habits LLC, I help women and the families they feed move from restriction and fear toward food they can actually enjoy, because I wish someone had told my clients years ago that medication is a tool, not a failure, and that culture was never something to give up for good health. My brain runs a little like Doctor Strange sorting through timelines when a plan falls apart. It doesn't panic. It just finds the next best option for you and your family.
